Personal background |
I'm originally from Minocqua, Wisconsin and now live in St. Louis, MO, USA. I'm 54 years old. I'm a software engineer, developing applications for Cardiothoriac Surgery (heart surgery) research at Washington University School of Medicine. It's a great job, I love science, programming and I get to pick my own toys. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Yes I think ET life exists and even intelligent life. However, I think the best searches will be for incidental emissions (such as the radio signals emitted from earth) rather than for intentional beacons like Seti@home is searching for. So I have rather dim hopes that Seti@home will find anything. I have much higher hopes for the forth-coming Allen array project.
I don't think present day humans are anywhere near being ready to send a beacon. We should have a much better idea of our relative standing in the spectrum of intelligent life in our galaxy before we do that. There are too many unknowns at present.
I run Seti@home because there is a small chance they may find a signal and it is only a small sacrifice on my part to do so. |
