Profile: Lona

Personal background
My name is Lona from Cleveland Ohio. I am a grandmother with a love for the cosmos. I became interested in cosmology years ago because of Carl Sagan.
I found it interesting that intuitively I knew that Carl Sagan believed in et's but lacked scientific proof. On the day he died I was happy for him because I knew on that day he found his answer. I want to contribute in finding that answer. I feel connected to all mankind and finding et's will help us all be connected to the universe. I'm hoping we hear a verifiable signal in my lifetime. My grand daughter is only three years old. I want to share my love for cosmology with her. I would be thrilled for her to know that her grandma helped answer this universal question. Are we alone in the universe?
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I know extraterrestrial life exists. Perhaps when the paranal telescopes are online we will be able to pinpoint where to look for a signal. By utilizing millions of people to help with the search as we are doing now is a beautiful answer because most of us want to know. We need to send a beacon for others to find. So that the et's of another planet can find their answer to. Maybe they feel alone in the universe as well. We have the most beautiful flowers, fauna, trees, mountains and oceans on our planet. Let's send pictures of spring flowers when the world is waking up from its winter sleep. Pictures of corral reefs and the life that is sustained by the reefs. We could share our beautiful sunrises and sunsets from different parts of the globe. The sunsets that I see in different seasons looking across lake erie is magnificent to me.
We should not be afraid. This is our natural next step in our evolution as humans. I run seti@home because I know there is a signal out there waiting to be heard. I want to share in the discovery of our lifetime and share it with my grandaughter. I want her to think in terms of the universe as her neighborhood. I want human's to look outside of themselves and away from pettiness and trivial conflicts on who is right. There is a far greater and deeper source for us to find. I can't wait till it is found. It will knock us off of our foundations and lead us to a new renaissance of thinking and open minds. we need this very much.
