Personal background

Based: Shropshire, England

I first set up my S@H account when I was working as
a sales person for a small computer company, I have since changed jobs and now
run S@H at my new place of work, a school in the town
of Shrewsbury. I also have a copy running on my home pc (naturally) and I intend
to distribute it to everyone I come across!

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1.9Do you think extraterrestrial life exists? If so, when and how will humans discover it? What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?
Yes, I do believe that somewhere else sentient life has evolved, maybe we are the most advanced form of life in ‘our’ corner of the universe, but I’m sure that in the vastness of all of space other species have evolved. I hope it would be a great help to humanity if extraterrestrial life was to be found.
2.9Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? If so, what information should we send?
I would like to, but that where would you point this beacon? – It would be nice to think that other sentient beings had developed technology that could receive our beacon and then reply to it, but this could take decades depending on the distance involved. And that is also assuming that the beings in question want to reply.
3.9Why do you run SETI@home? What are your views about the project? Any suggestions?
I have two reasons for running SETI.
1.9Because I do believe extraterrestrial life exists, and I would like to think that with all the computing power being put to use, we may just find some.
2.9Because it is a globally-orientated community, we are working as one planet looking beyond our selves. It is using the internet in its most suitable mode, data transfer.
