Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Obviously ET exists otherwise Star Trek wouldn't be able to filmed!

Seriously though, with all the millions of planets likely to be out there, there has to be a reasonable chance of live eveolving on at least a few. Whether that life gets much beyond unicellular I guess is a bigger question or perhaps life elsewhere doesn't even abide by what we know as the 'rules' for life.

Will SETI succeed? It'd be good if it did but honestly I think it improbable. We searching too small a section of sky all too infrequently. Plus we inherently limiting our search to species who have evolved some kind of radio transmitter which we understand.

So why run it? It's a damn fine way of burning in CPU's that's for sure! Besides, there's always the chance of success, and it's good to be a part of that. I also use it as a benchmarking tool - Shaving 30 minutes off the average processing time simply by altering memory timings put me on to that one!
