Personal background
The short story is that I was born in Helsinki, Finland from a Finnish Mother and an American Father. My Brother was born 18 months later in Sydney, Australia, and my sister was born 5 years after that in San Francisco, USA. My Dad had decided to travel around the world and found a wife and then children on the way. And thanks to them, I had circumnavigated the world by the time I was 2.

My name is an old Finish name that means Evening, and which I have heard people are finally naming their children again.

When I was growing up, I wanted to be an astronaut, but now I live in New York City and work in multimedia. As such I am a dedicated Mac user and have two such at home.

I also can't spell, so I apologize now for any spelling mistakes.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
In times past, people believed that their individual countries were first the center of the world, then the center of the Universe. I think that believing that we are the only lifeform and/or intelligent lifeform to come about in the Universe is just as egocentric.

The best thing about finally discovering another lifeform out there would be the cultural as well as scientific knowledge gained. Any culture stagnates without new input from outside to spur on advances, and with our advances in communication, we are rapidly turning into a global community, with little or no new input from new sources. Sometimes I think that even in the most desolate of areas of the world, you are likely to find a Big Mac Wrapper. The worst possibility about any new lifeform is that they are probably going to be more advanced then us, and they might behave toward us as badly as we have treated other cultures less advanced then us. Wouldn't it be sad to find that we are suddenly the indigenous population being herded onto some reservation while someone out there takes our land?

As for broadcasting info about us, maybe that's why noone has contacted us so far. Without a translation, what would some alien lifeform make of things like "Bevis and Buthead", "The Benny Hill Show" and "Iron Chef" (all shows that I have watched myself, by the way)

As for why I'm doing SETI on my computer? I probably am only weeding out the info that doesn't prove anything, but at least I can feel like I'm helping!
