Profile: Rajiv Kaushik

Personal background
I am originally from India, now living in Singapore since 2000. Prior to that I was in New Zealand for 15 years. By education I am a scientist, specialising in Physics. My career however, is in the IT and Telecommunications industry. Currently, I am the Chief Information Officer of a multi-national corporation that operates in the Asia-Pacific and Americas regions.

I love to read sci-fi and am a firm believer that life (sentient) does exist beyond earth. I wish that life on earth had the same intelligence that we are seeking elsewhere; maybe then we would not have all this strife and killings among the (supposedly) the most intelligent species on earth. ***IMAGINE***
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes, ET life does exist. It is due to the current limitations of our science and technology that we are unable to locate it. Given the current rate of our advances, we should make tremendous progress in locating it in the 21st century (however, I suspect that we have already found it - a la X-files!). The benefits would obviously be technological, though I suspect that the ET life could be more advanced in using mental abilities (telepathy etc.) for communication purposes. I strongly think that a spacefaring civilisation would have identifed a civilisation model that would tell us how disparat cultures can co-exist in peace.

On the negative side, they could just be like Genghis Khan/Hitler on a parsec level, viewing earth as a source of food, resources or a place to colonise. However, it is more likely that the contact would be beneficial rather than dangerous.

2. Yes humans should transmit the beacon. We should transmit the human and other animals' and plants' genetic code, so that an appropriately advanced civilisation could understand earth and its inhabitants.

3. My interest is mainly putting my contribution to my strong beliefs. I believe in ET and we should look for them.
