Personal background
I am a Network Systems Administrator. I am 34 years old and live in Denver, Colorado. My hobbies include computers, camping, hiking, outdoor activities in general. I beleive that given the size and infinite possibilities in the universe we cannot be alone. Just looking into the night sky and seeing all the stars is a wondrous experience and there has to be something on another planet looking at stars from its perspective and thinking the same thing. It is also a dream never realized to travel in space, and maybe contact with a more advanced species can accomplish this in my lifetime.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
And yes I must state again that we cannot be alone in the Universe... The neighbors may be distant, but they are out there.
This is a very worthwhile cause for the future of our species as we outgrow this beautiful planet that we live on...Just think if the rate of population increase continues on its current exponential rate we will have no room left for all of us on Earth. We must venture out and another race that has already developed advanced space travel would be a tremendous asset to our entire race...
Should we send a beacon? Well consider what another species must be thinking of us if they are monitoring the signals already leaving our planet.... Really makes you wonder what all the violence in our television programs and news will make them think of us....
I support SETI with several machines crunching data for them. I do this for the hope that one day (in my lifetime) we will make that First Contact. I plan to continue supporting Seti and working on convincing others of the usefulness of the Seti@Home screensaver....
