Personal background
Hello everyone...
My name is Taf...I live in Sheffield, England...Born in Wales (better than England - a great discussion point amongst my English mates) from mixed parentage...(Dad was a man and Mum was a woman)...
The Welsh are well known for their inate sense of humour and love of sheep. (cough , cough , harumph)...
I work in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and have done so all my adult life on various jobs...Started as a steel-worker and then qualified as an electrician which was the main source of income for my family...Recently re-trained as a computer engineer (A , N , and 1/2 way thru MCSE), I would do this quicker, but I am currently employed with one of the largest electrical retailers in the UK and study is a part time / looking forward type of thing...
Family consists of wife and 4 children , and it is never boring or stagnated...Been with my Wife for 25 years and still very happy (bonus in anyone's books) and looking forward to what my kids end up doing and how they get on in life...
Mates, I have a few scattered around with broad sense of humours, which they need to put up with me...
Interests are computers / electronics / and having a laugh.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think ET's exist?...Well there are things on earth we are still discovering in the way of lifeforms...Taken that we have been on here for 2000 plus years and are still finding new species? You would have to concede that the possibility of finding life on other planets (even non-oxygen / carbon based) are very high...Note...HIGH...not LOW or percentagely non-existent...
Just because we may not know what to look at, does not mean it is not there...It would be startlingly stupid to be complacent...

Should we transmit a beacon / send out a craft with co-ordinates inside?
Why not? ...We'll probably kill each other before another species finds us...

Why do I run Seti@home? What are my views about the project? ...
I run it as its interesting / cost nothing as a hobby and cost me nothing to help someone else out...(Also run another machine as a cancer cruncher too - my Dad has this and it really Pee's you off that you cannot do a thing and you know it will kill as the end result)...

What are my views about the project? ...
My views are pretty much as above and I think we will find someone else around this here neck of the woods eventually.
