Personal background
Hi my name is Christine and I've wanted to get SETI@ home ever since I heard about it.
I live in England. I am an artist really but have always been interested in science.
I got Seti in 2001 and set it running on my old computer- which only originally had 32RAM but I had upgraded to 128.
Then disaster struck! I was burgled. I had patiently watched my screen saver work through the data for about 60 or 70 hours- It had got to about 50% of one unit (thats how slow it was!) and then it was gone. Anyway a new computer and a hard drive crash later Im still here, still interested, I have downloaded a BOINC but am totally CONFUSED by it... What is it measuring? I think the old Seti site was much more user friendly too... but I must be patient...anyway while I'm producing Art on the computer its chugging away looking for little green men!In my spare time I paint portraits, I have always read science as well as sci fi. Im also a fan and artist at Youdraw.com... come and see the art!!!! Anyway this is probably about as long winded as you can get so I will sign off. Thanks for letting me be part of something really important!

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes I am sure extra terrestrial life exists, the universe is to large and complex for it not to. Would there be benefits or dangers? Probably neither. The distances to even the closest stars are so vast that I don't belive that they can be bridged easily. So its highly unlikely that anyone will call on the off chance of a nice chat. If aliens wanted to start up somewhere else and they have the technology to travel - then surely they would be able to find a better world than this to inhabit.
We have already transmitted signals- what's a few more going to do? I think any information sent should be carefully selected - but I wouldn't be confident to say what should go on it- That surely is up to the powers that be.
I run Seti at home because I hope we are not alone in the universe.
