Personal background
I am 43 and a major appliance technician (journeyman to be exact), in short I fix your junk and charge you.
Owner and operator of my own shop since 1984.
I don't take orders well (hence my own shop).
When I grow up I'm going to buy a Telescope and look......out there.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm waiting for the day we discover radio signals don't work (due to the vast distances and long wait time) and we switch over to something more realistic (soon to be discoverd. Ha!) .
I picture a man 5000 years ago in Russia watching for smoke signals from Canada! (That is how I see man kind (now) with space communication)
But I will do what I can to help make whatever system we are using now work.
I will tend the mountain top view point so to speak in my pitifull and sad attempt to communicate with a distant culture by smoke signal.
I can only assume that an alien race intelligent enough to try to communicate with us would also know radio is just to slow and invent some way of speeding things up... so lets catch up and work on that new telephone for ET eh Boys?.
Heres a primer... light is already here from their sun, a direct line! lets use it!?
