Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think Extraterrestial life exists? SURE!

I'm a religious person and anyone who believes in a God and/or Angels must recognize that those two things themselves indicate Extraterrestial life exists.

I don't presume that all life is 'carbon based ugly bags of water' as I recall from a Star Trek episode. If some structure allows the retention, recall and application of information, can create original thought (not sure this is a trait of humans), and is self aware, then it might be considered intellegent life by my standards. I don't expect the physical properties of how intellengence manifests itself to be a defining characteristic. It seems to be a limiting 'inside the box' type of view if I do.

Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? DEFINATELY NOT!

We don't have our act together as a species. If we can't embrace the rich diversity in our own species, how would we be able to do so in a broader scope? Why would we want someone new to find us and let us screw up their space and existence. We are not intellectually at peace and tolerant among ourselves. As a species, we tend to prey on the weak, disadvantaged, or different. When we have our home clean and proper, then we can invite company over ;)

Why do I support SETI? [i]FACTS HELP US MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS, EXPAND OUR PERCEPTINS AND UNDERSTAND THINGS AROUND US. That helps to to challenge traditional concepts and perceptions, encouraging growth and change.[i]!
