Profile: Craig Devine

Personal background
My names Craig (obviously) and I have a distinct love of vodka (hence the second part of my name). I'm 18, and I hail from the depths of a village near London. I love spending hours staring at the stars through my ageing telescope. As my friends know, I have an extremely scary taste in music - in other words, most of them dont like the bands I listen to. However, I don't care - if I likes it, I listens to it, thats my philosophy. I'm a student, currently studying for a degree (in Astronomy, Space Science and Astrophysics) at the great Uni of Kent. I've got a brand spanking new laptop to crunch the numbers with, so the last few work units have averaged out at just over 4 hours!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think there's intelligent life out there somewhere, but from the way the people on this planet have been acting in the last 100 years means it ain't us whose the intelligent ones. I don't reckon that E.T. would want to contact us until we mend our ways, and we prove to them that we no longer feel like blowing our fellow men apart - it doesn't look good to E.T. that we still feel the need to fight between ourselves. But then again, if some alien race developed the technology to actually visit us (and not take hundreds of years getting here), they probably would have developed the technology to wipe out all life on this planet as quick as a flash if they see our tendancy for inner species violence.
