Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I do think that extraterrestrial life exists, but I doubt humans will discover it within our lifetime as even the galaxy is sufficiently vast that is unlikely there is a civilization using radio (or that used radio) for a period of time corresponding to the search. Still, it's a good start. One future day, when technology advances, then perhaps we will discover neighbours.

2. I'm not certain humans should deliberately transmit a beacon, but I find it difficult to make a compelling argument against it either. The fact is, we've probably inadvertently been doing so for 50 years with our powerful radars and so forth.

3. I run S@H out of genuine interest in the science of it.
