Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe the possibility for life on other worlds is possible; however, I also think that it is vast area and we might have our backs turned when they are communicating. Also, this search must assume that, if we do find something, we need not jump too high for joy because WHEN was it sent. They could have died out, moved on, etc. Yet, the curiosity still beckons the search...

As for sending a beacon, we see the difficulty of finding the beacon from our side. What do we send and how long do we point it? What if their backs are turned. Encoded laser and RF pulse trains--in my limited knowledge of both--appears to be the "best" candidates to over come various galactic problems introduced by the vastness of space.

I run SETI@home because I hope that someday this program pays off and causes the doubters, Flat Earth-types, and Moon in Arizona people to eat crow!
