I'm from Syracuse, N.Y. U.S.A & 37 years old. I do SETI under the name "AlecStaar".
I am a Win32 Senior Software Engineer & have been professionally programming PC's mostly in the MIS/IT realm doing database work in Delphi, VB, & Access from local departmental LAN reporting & dataprocessing apps up to Enterprise Class Systems for the Fortune 100-500 & smaller companies since 1994.
I love playing Computer Games, especially IDSoftware's fine work!
I also develop shareware/freeware in my spare time to keep sharp on programming in Delphi mostly (finest tool there is for Win32 coding, & Linux too for RAD development... fast code, quick development cycles).
They can be found here in a Utilities Package I wrote that was in ZDNet & CNET's Top 10 of their Top 50 System Utilities/Other Utilities section from June 2000-June 2001, never lower than #10 spot for a year again Microsoft TweakUI, Norton SystemWorks, & Norton PCAnywhere to name a few!

Syracuse Orangement #1 nationally again this year 2002, & West Genesee Highschool where i learned to play is also on the way to the State Championship again: Dynasties! I used to play for what is now & has been the Division II champion LeMoyne College Dolphins (Jesuit school where I earned my first degree) on their first year varsity team in 1984, also in Syracuse... The Lacrosse capital of the planet earth! Yea, babee...

| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

1.) I do believe extraterrestrial life exists. Absolutely. I am a believer in God, and in no known religion did God ever say to any of his propets as far as I know "You are my ONLY children"... it's a big universe folks, think about it!
2.) We already transmit a beacon if you think about it with all the RF signals we have been sending since the days of early radio... probably signals from nuke bombs too with all the energy they generate/radiate. NO expert on that, but with all the what? 40 terawatts of power the world uses each year, and no signature is left by us... no way! Tesla was right all along I figure!
3.) I did it to contribute to what I felt was a worthy/noble cause, in a world that does not have many left sometimes I feel. And, it's an EXCELLENT benchmark of a computer system as well: BONUS! SETI's an awesome effort & concept! A truly noble effort, in a world that is powered TOO much of the time on greed & corruption as well as pursuit of the "Holy Dollar"... Hope it helps find "E.T", & not the borg, you know? Anyhow, everytime I get a new systemboard CPU & RAM, you KNOW I will be running SETI to burn my avg. time of 6 hours 58 minutes per unit down some more! |
