I'm a doctor working in London.
I run my home network:

ADSL connection on:
1.1GHZ Athlon T-Bird, 256 CAS-2 Ram, Raid array (fast)
750MHz laptop (when it works and dosn't overheat)
450Mhz Dell desktop, 256MB, just does seti
266MHz Dell desktop, 128MB, just does seti


Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1: Surely everyone has allready thought about this. Yes a massive invasion fleet of cylons could be on the way. Bloody unlikely.
2: Yes sending out a beacon would be a good idea. Probably the best beacon to send would be a binary version of PI to 8-10 digits repeated over and over.
3: I run SETI as it is not making any money. It may not find aliens but could find astronomical data that is of interest.
