Personal background
Here's a little bit about me... I am 29, I live in Illinois, and I am a Software Engineer for a large Telecom Corporation.

I am recently divorced, and I like to spend time on my Free-BSD custom box and write networking apps for fun. I also love to surf the web, maintain my home network, write in my blog, and take digipics.

Space has always faascinated me. I love the idea of the universe being so huge, but the ultimate irony is that you will never be able to know how large it really is. If an object lay motionless in space, it can only travel in time; so does that mean that an object invariant of time can be anywhere and everywhere? Hmmm....
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Here's what I think about ET Life... The Universe is so vast, and even for light to travel from distant stars to Earth can take anywhere from four and a half years to several centuries.

I do believe that there is intelligent life elsewhere beyond our reach. I also think the chances that we will know about it are very minimal.

Even if we do receive a signal and initiate a dialog, due to the transmission time required, any type of conversation would span several different generations.

Who says that the basis of the Hydrogen atom is the correct frequency to listen with? We assume all life in the universe is hydrocarbonic. Silicon-Nitrate intelligent life forms may choose the frequency corresponding to Cesium, if they breathe Cesium Bromide. Hey, isn't the definition of one second related to the vibration of the Cesium atom? Hmmm...
