Profile: The McCord Laboratory

Personal background
Hi everyone from the Mc Cord Laboratory!!
Mt name is Rebecca and I am a 28 year old "domestic goddess" and landscape architecture major. My family, including my husband, Karl, my daughter, Piper and my son Connor, and I, monitor the stars from our home computer in San Antonio, Texas. When we're not gazing at the stars in the huge Texas sky, we like to work in the garden, visit Six Flags Fiesta Texas, feed the dolphins at Sea World, or just lie in the hammock out front and enjoy the breeze.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think it is impossible to conceive that in a Universe as vast as our own there could possible NOT be life on other planets. I think that when we, as humans, have advanced to a point beyond racism, sexism, agism, war, hatred, etc. and evolve enough to accept one another and work with one another in harmony, then it will be feasible for extra-terrestrial life to return to this planet. It would be pointless for such advanced creatures to come here and try to teach advanced thinking to a bunch of Neanderthals such as ourselves.
I think we will verify that life is out there long before we are visited or acknowledged by that life.
The only dangers one could foresee lie in the possibility of a premature visit by those creatures. If they were to come now, our government would do as they have always done and hide them away and experiment on them. Their greed would blind them to the greater benefits available from such a visit.
If we can and want to transmit a beacon for others, sure why not? But I believe that anyone we would want to transmit to already knows we are here and won't come rushing back just because of a beacon. I believe that extra-terrestrials visit our planet regularly to monitor our evolution so under that assumption a beacon would really be pointless. When they are ready to acknowledge us they will.
I run SETI@home because like any other stargazer I am incurably curious as to what exactly IS out there. If I can, in any way, help the search I will.
