Personal background
Hi I'm a 48 year old Englishman, whom lives in Yorkshire. Not married but always dating. Am a Computer Engineer by profession developing into networking. Am a graduate in Computer Science yet for many years strayed into business and was up to 7 years ago a General Manager.

I seem to support losers in our national game of football (soccer as many Americans call it), only ever been rewarded with 1 joyous moment in 40 years of supporting Sheffield Wednesday, we won the League Cup in 1991. However relagation from the Premier Division 3 years ago looks like a life sentence again. They were relegated for 17 years in 1970. Sportswise thare is a light though as for the past few years I've also followed the UK's No.1 professional Ice Hockey team, The Shgeffield Steelers. They are not brilliant but have won the Play Offs for the last 2 years , done the UK Grand Slam 2 years ago and won the Challenge Cup competition many times. Perhaps the fact that they have a Canadian Coach and have a team with only Canadians in, is part of the reason.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Re Seti, I have not much spare time for the research however believe we should know whom is where out there. Not for 1 monent do I believe we are alone, I believe in the Darwin theory more than the twaddle spouted by religious nutters. Whatever, we must act with caution in searching for ETs. We should not transmit data willy nilly to all & sundry about us as we have no idea what is out there. There is a real danger that whatever there is may consider us inferior beings, treat us like cattle and cull, farm call it what you will the human race as a food source! That is my only reservation with this whole project. We need to be the master race, because only with mastery can you control your own destiny. Care needs to be taken.

As we are on the threshold of inter stellar migration, by transmitting data for others to find, we are in danger and this should not be done. Yet! We have not developed sufficiently powerful weapons for defence nor do we know enough technology. We are possibly vunerable to a society with greater technology for the next few hundred years. I feel this threat is more & more real as time goes by.
