Personal background
I am a sign language interpreter at Rochester Institute for Technology. I work specifically in the colleges of Science and Engineering. My interest in SETI dates back to many years ago when the project to utilize 'home' computers to extrapolate data was developed.

The only hobby I really have is flying kites, but I enjoy many other activities. Here in Rochester, NY we don't have a great deal of warm, sunny days. So, I take advantage of them as they occur and like to walk along the Erie Canal paths that the city has developed.

That's all folks...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I don't think I would be participating in this if I did not think that there was a likely chance that we are not alone. I don't necessarily believe that 'we' humans will discover any evidence of this, but that ET's will discover us. The addition of additional life forms to the very diverse life we deal with daily has both pros and cons. The pro might be that humans would see (finally) that our differences are really rather petty. A possible con might be that 'man' would once again demonstrate his absolute propensity for destroying everything he comes in contact with in the name of cultural assimilation.

Seeing that I feel we would most likely be discovered rather than visa versa, I definitely think we should transmit. After all, we are doubtfully the first race to come up with searching for frequency modulation searches in the pursuit of 'other' life forms.
