Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I believe there are enough suns in the universe to have habital planets, and enough habital planets to house some life forms.
How many are intelligent enough to send radio waves via many million of lightyears, and in such a form that the SETI project will be able to detect them, I am doubtful.
Humans have already sent enough radio waves/ signs of life into the universe that any advanced traveling alien would be able to find out where we are, should we send more? The aliens are guarantied to be so advance in technology we would not be able to oppose them if they arrived. Possibly not a good idea to transmit our location via the noise we transmit, but if it is to be damaging it is already too late.
I run seti @ home to be part of a greater community project which puts my computer to good use, when I leave it on, and am not using it. It is a good test to see how fast my cpu can crunch units.
