Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that life exists somewhere else in space. Not necessarily inteligent, but I'm sure there has to be life. If there is an intelligent rase somewhere up there, and they wish and have the possibility to contact us (or find out if we exist) it will probably be by sending a transmission of some kind, a signal. That's why I think the SETI programme could find such a signal. If we are to send such a signal for others to recieve (which would of course take eons of time to reach another starsystem :-) it should be something, that would differ from typical fuzz. I think that the idea of prime numbers from Contact is good. That is recognizable. And the message should also contain some info on our location in the galaxy.
There is a thought, that if a civilization actually did send a signal into space, we would have recieved it by now. But I believe, that one day it might just reach us. And maybe SETI should search among other frequencies and for other types of sigals. Maybe we are recieving a message from others, but we cannot see it yet...
