Profile: Cut-N-Shoot, Texas Kid

Personal background
I've been interested in electronics, radio communications, and astronomy since I was about 10 years old. My interests in these hobbies did not come from parents or any other family members; I just read a lot as a kid, and these things really intrigued me.
I'm 54 years old now (2007)and have been licensed as an amateur radio operator for over 35 years. In the mid 80's I built a 5 meter radio telescope in the back of my 10 acre homesite and spent many nights gazing into the sky. I also operate vhf and uhf EME (bouncing signals off the moon to other amateur radio operators).
It was a real pleasure to see the SETI project start up in 1999. I traveled the world for 17 years as a power generation engineer, and was out of the country when SETI started. As soon as I found out about SETI, I could not wait to get home and sign up. I've been active there ever since and enjoy reading all the articles and news group info. I am a member of the Planetary Society and a life member of the Amateur Radio Relay League, as well as many other organizations.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Why would we (Earthlings) be the only life form in the universe?? Our species had to originate from something already alive. Whether you believe in GOD or the "big bang" theory makes no difference. Our "life" had to come from other living organisms, which came from others. Our planet has evolved over many millions of years, and will keep evolving, even if we (people of the Earth) wind up destroying life on this planet. Life will start again. Will we discover extraterrestial Life?? I think so....our society is ready to accept "others". I just hope it's intelligent life, and not just micro-organisms.
It would be great to receive advanced technology and learn more about undiscovered galaxies and other intelligent forms of life from ET's.
I just hope the leaders of the world don't decide to "kill" off visitors if they decide to visit, and hopefully, the visitors will not do the same to us, whether intentionally or via germs and viruses we (Earth) do not have cures for.
We generate beacons into space every day, all day long via radio waves (think of all the commercial radio and TV stations and communications services that transmit daily), so our presence is always "illuminated" into space.
I enjoy the SETI program because it brings hope. Have you ever seen so many people of the world agree to something as those of us that participate in this project??
