Profile: Jan Eggert Kofoed

Personal background
M.Sc. (Physics & Mathematics) and Ph.D. (Computer simulation).
Physics is still one of my major interests, though I do not practice it any more. Cosmology, High Energy Physics, Quantum Physics, and Relativity Theory constitute the topics I find most interesting.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I am almost sure that ET life exists, but I am not sure that we will ever detect it. There are several reasons for my pessimism, e.g. statistical speculations, uncertainty on how other life forms evolve, their socilogical inclinations, to mention the most important.

2. The dangers involved in case contact is made with ET life forms cannot be foreseen, but being a fatalist I still think that Earthlings should increase fellow cosmological SETI projects' probabilty for success by emitting some kind of significant/regular/intelligent signal. Subjects from physics, which for certain will be universal in the broadest sense, should be sketched in a form that is believed to be readily understandable.

3. Due to my interest in above matters I want to support SETI. My sceptisism will hopefylly be proven to be misplaced :-)
