Personal background
I am a 53 year old female who has run SETI continuously for several years because I am a fan of digital signal processing. I originally investigated DSP when I worked for Nuclear Chicago in the mid 1970's. We implemented an algorithm for passive imaging that was the parent of both SPECT and positron imaging. Now, the techniques are used for luggage scanning!!!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
With the granularity of time, I believe that civilizations less developed than ours may one day view remmants of our signals and laugh, and that civilizations more advanced than ours are already laughing at our signals. Our hope is that either some civilization equal to ours will rejoice and attempt to contact us, or that a truly advanced civilization will honor our attempt and give us a hint after they stop laughing.
