Personal background
I'm a 25 year old male from Denmark (northern Europe).

I'm currently unemployed; I spend my time working on projects to start my own software-development company.

My hobbies are electronics (especially the programming of computers), and the universe.

I spend a lot of time tracking down new discoveries and theories of the universe, and the complex construction of anything.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I don't believe that Earth would be the only populated planet; why here - and why us ?

I believe that life on Earth didn't appear by itself, but was brought from outer space.

If we ever discovered an intelligent signal; we would never be able to contact the source in a lifetime - maybe their planet was destroyed long before we got the signal.

If we ever receive an intelligent signal, I want to be a part of it - that's why I signed up for SETI@home.

Should we ever get a signal, and be able to communicate with the source, I don't think we have to worry about anything:

Any civilization with enough power to contact us (and tell us how to contact them back), will also have enough power to wipe us totally from the universe-map, and we can do just nothing about it.

Same thing, a civilization of that intelligence wouldn't have to wipe us out - unless they discover human's nature, and find out how dangerous we are to them!

Should we send a beacon for others to find ?Why not!

We're looking for someone's beacon to find. What if they're also just looking for ours, and don't send one out themselves ?

That's pure logic: Don't expect others to do, what you didn't do yourself!

But anyways, yes, I think we should send out a beacon, including this information:
- Some maths (e.g. prime numbers) and/or some physics; simple things to tell that this is a signal from an intelligent civilization,
- What we look like,
- That we are carbon- and oxygen-based,
- That we live on the surface,
- Description of our solar system and galaxy (maybe they can find us :o).
Sending out details about our DNA and stuff, would by my oppinion just be a waste of time:

Should someone ever read the signal, why would they be interested in our DNA ?

To create their own copies of the human race ?

To find out how to kill us ?

If someone ever need that info, they can come down and get it...
