Personal background
Howzit! I've been working through several interesting things in life but here I am, regardless! I'm now 27, (yikes! That's..what..72 years more before the mast?) Back in school, working my way to getting that elusive J.D. (Law Degree) and then thinking about what lies ahead. Born in the 8-0-8 State and raised, went to school in Oregon and now wandering the world, looking for my lost shaker and salt. :)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. What I use to Run SETI@HOME/BOINC
I've been running SETI on my computers since 1999, when Classic made its rounds at Univ. of Oregon. Ever since then, I've donated time and used them to stress-test my computers' limits. It's a noble cause, too, because I'm a man of science and it helps me to do something to avoid the boredom that is the law.

2. Why do I run Seti?
Personally, I think SETI is a great adventure. Being schooled in Physics and Economics, I know the linear path we sometimes need to take in order to get an answer but also that sometimes, the linear path is the stupidest way to get there. In all of the vastness of the universe, it is sheer stupidity to think that we, all 6 billion of us, are the only intelligent life! Even on our Earth, we're among the Dolphins and Elephants and even the Donkeys who show rather high degrees of intelligence! Who are we to continually perpetuate this heresy of being the only intelligent species? Since we kill each other over the stupidest things, are we truly intelligent?

SETI@home is a marvelous thing in that we, being the first generation with the knowledge/capacity/capability to actually find out the answers, are almost bound to succeed. We've discovered over 130 extrasolar planets, telescopes are growing more and more powerful in producing ever finer detail on a shrinking level, and soon we will be able to look farther and listen deeper. ET is out there, we're the pioneers to give momentum to the find.
