Personal background |
Hello,
I live in Cupertino, san jose, in the heart of the silicon valley. I discovered SETI a few years ago and decided to participate. I have been working in the computer business for quite a while and saw all these MIPS lost. Why not using them for something useful? I am not sure that we will find anything, but without trying we can't say !
I am originally from France but move to California 8 years ago (mostly because of the wheather..). I enjoy riding my motorcycle (BMW K100LT) everyday to work and my son (11 soon) enjoys that also. He is still a little young to have one on his own.
I was surprised to discover the "farm" on several websites, this assemblage of computers having only one purpose : crunching numbers. This must be hard on the electric bill.
Anyway, I wish that these projects live on and we can all participate and finally beat the aliens in the galaxy soccer cup..

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I preferred the old SETI because we had many graphical results (what was found, where, etc..). I didn't find this in the new pages. Maybe we could target a special region in space because we think it's more likely to provide results. The big paradox is : Even if we find something, we will never be able to respond ! These signals must be at least 1000's years old (at a minimum). Imagine we find a SOS signal.. Now we will have to invent a time machine to help these poor aliens.
Anyway, I am an optimistic and this is a very good use of our computers...
The project itself is such a wonderful thing because it offers a possibility for all of us to participate in a grand search. |
