Personal background |
I am male, 58 years old, retired and I think Seti@home is the best thing since sliced bread. My hobbies are computers and duplicate contract bridge. I think the search for extraterrestrial intelligence is one of the most important activities we can do. I can't think of a better use for my computer. I sent the software and FAQ to many of my family and friends in hope they would sign up. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1. I think the likelihood is high. Hopefully we will make contact through the efforts of projects like Seti@Home. Any event representing a great opportunity also represents a great danger. There is a chance we will get new technology via interstellar conversation. There is the danger that such technology will destroy us.
2. If it is feasible, I think we should be broadcasting our presence. Basic stuff, primes, mathematical and physical constants to begin with.
3. I think it is the greatest idea I have come across in a while. To involve common people in a grand project such as SETI is inspired. I have no suggestions at this time, I may later. I will post them on the Usenet groups dedicated to SETI. |
