Personal background
I just put SETI to work on some machines who were unused most of the time (that's the definition of a server, usualy :-)) but after a while I found myself interested in crunching as much as I can. Now SETI became a daily routine and the scope is to try to help those guys (at Berkeley) by crounching some data with small costs for me.
Computers used: a couple of dual PIII 700-933 Mhz processors (with single SETI task, I wait for SMP version), some AMD K7/800-1100 Mhz (old but good machines) to my own Athlon 2000 (the fastest of the pack).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I don't have a clear opinion about extraterestrial life. Statisticaly (I have a degree in statistics) there is extraterestrial life, but in a practical way of thinking, I don't have the hope to see an alien visiting us in my lifetime (I'm quite young - 27). But we can discover them and that's the point of doing all this things.
I am looking for a SMP version of SETI as my single disapointment with SETI.
