Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
E.T no not the little cute gut from a well known Film but anyone of a number of diverse being from around. 1/3 of them are likley to be familure to us the remaining 2/3 we will probably miss as life forms because they are so different from us. Humans will discover ET when we stop argueing over the elements of our little world and get a collective will to seek out all that is new as equals. How well this could be anything from when we recieve a message from them to when they start fireing at us because wee stood on one of them. I think we should keep as galatically quite as possible .. for now.. as until we have an good way to defend our little blue marble from possible agressors .. i bet all ET's are not nice plesant people.
When we do send it we should sent the stongest signal we can even if that is just patterns of noise as the chances are out systems and logic may not apply where they live but most intelligant life would quickly see a pattern and then be able to work out where it came from. I run Seti@Home to try to improve the ability of man kind to find intelligent life as quickly as possible as this event could be exactly what we need to realise just how small we all are.
It would be quite good if you could get an automated report about each unit you return advising of peaks etc and what the probable cause is. I have just installed Sti@Home monitor which kinda does that but not as well as i might like
