Profile: Hamish "drmoriarty" Greig

Personal background
I was born in the early seventies, and when I was at school computers were expensive, pc's uncommon and only in the last three years of high school was there any classes related to them but I had already chosen my subjects, so I was in my mid twenties before I became truly computer literate.
I enjoy the same things as everyone else, reading, cooking, movies, friends, family etc. I live with my girlfriend and spend sunday mornings watching her play soccer (football for some of you).
Oh I could be a trekkie too ;)

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I choose to believe our evolution on Earth is not unique or accidental, so I run seti@home on the small cluster of linux computers I work with at home.
All of the computers have primary functions, desktop, fileserver, mail server, development machines, tinderbox etc so boinc and seti@home run in the background and utilise the processor in the times when load is low.
I couldn't really say if the project is worthwhile or whether it fulfills it's goals or not, I support it because, as well as believing "we are not alone", I believe learning knew things and keeping an open mind is integral to a healthy fulfilling life.
