Personal background
Originally From Karachi, Pakistan, but in capital Islamabad for last 12 years. I am 36 years old, having Masters degree in Computer Science. My main hobbies are reading magazines, novels, spy stories, whatever I get hands to; and Computer Programming. I love programming, and routinely read half a dozen programming journals every month.

My collegues take me as a troubleshooter; asking for my help in every situation where they don't find ways to proceed. May it be programming (many computer languages) or system administration (different OSes).

This habit of reading took another direction after introduction of Internet in Pakistan, when I started to grasp programming related topics on-line.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, its my belief that extraterrestrial life exists, as the holy Quran slightly menioned (yes I am a practicing Muslim; but please don't label me as extremist; I am not). But am pescimist about finding some.

The reason in my mind is that we are trying to find someone with our characterstics, and someone using way of signalling like us. This might altogather be different. What about some living being inhaling carbon dioxide? or worse: fumes of sulphuric acid?

I involve in SETI@home project to participate in a global move. I am amused being a part of global community, specially when my religious belief dictates that we (the whole world) are brethrens (being child of Adam and Eve).

It's a fine project, bringing people close from all nook and corners of the world.

However, I think we should take this as a role model, and should start some more usefull (in worldly sence; not going outside of this globe) projects. No other distributed-computing model can provide such enormous computing power.

Update: Wow, my above wish succeeded at last. Now I am member of predictor@home via BOINC from July 2004. See my profile here (although nearly same): http://predictor.scripps.edu/view_profile.php?userid=4277
