Profile: Einar Fredrik Nyheim

Personal background
I live in Norway, am 25 years of age.

I work with UPS (unbroken power supply). I have a large interrest in computers. (got three computers running SETI@home, one computer@work running SETI). I also play RPG (roleplaying games) like AD&D, Rolemaster, Vampire, Paranoia and more.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes. E.T. exist. I don't think we will ever find proof for it during my lifespan, but not looking for it would be plain stupid (who knows... we might find it some day) IF we find other life, I cannot really se any benefits and dangers other than increased funding for spaceprogrammes. To establish a two-way-communication, we need the entire world to work together (or aat least, most off it). That I cannot see happen.

2. Yes. If there is life out there, it will sooner or later begin the same search that we do with SETI. If they find us first, they might tell us, and make it easier for us to find and understand them. Off course, there is allways the threat of them beeing hostile, wanting to take every resource we've got (those not exploited yet), but I find that not likely.

3. I run SETI to help out. It doesn't cost me anything, I get a feeling of doing something useful and besides, it woud be stupid to not look.
I think the project is great! The person coming up with the initial plan for it deserves a medal!
