Personal background
I spent most of my youth growing up in a small town in central Illinois. I have always been intrigued by the potential of life outside our solar system, as well as the paranormal. Now, in my later 30's, I live in the northwestern suburbs of Columbus, Ohio with my wife and 3 daughters, where I work as a Lead Network Engineer for a large Fortune 50 financial institution managing global architecture for application networking services. I achieved my CCIE certification in 2005 after 3 long years of grueling studying. My non-career interests are playing or watching hockey, downhill skiing, playing Wii with my kids, tinkering with my own website (www.thewaystation.com), building new or fixing old computers for friends and family, and pretty much anything else computer or technology related.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am pretty convinced that there is life outside our solar system. Out of the billions of stars in our Universe and there is only one planet circling one star that can support life? I hardly can believe that. My feeling is that other types of life within our solar system will be found by scientists in the near future, such as the recent research discoveries about Mars. However, as far as intelligent life outside our solar system, at this point in time, I think that we will have to continue hoping that we can make radio contact some day.

I run SETI@Home as my own personal donation to the cause of finding other intelligent life forms. The idea of using distributed computing for this task was brilliant. It allows the general public to feel involved in this project.
