Personal background
I am a 35 year old widow, mother of two. I like to play with my kids (one 16 and one 6), travel, listen to all kinds of music except rap. I like to paint, draw, read (favorite author is Robert Fulghum, swim, ski, play in the snow, talk on yahoo instant messenger, surf the web, work outside, grow plants. I am a great cook. I am new to the SETI program but have always enjoyed outer space and watching the stars and have been accused at times of living there, :-)) :-P
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that extraterrestrial life does exist, it is disconcerting to think that we are alone in the boundless space. I wonder if other civilizations would be like us with the same health problems and if maybe they have found cures for life threatening, debilitating diseases that we haven't. I wonder if they would have the same criminal problems and if they have learned how to eliminate things like terrorism, serial crimes, child brutality/molestation/abuse. I don't know if we should transmit a beacon for others to find, our world is brutal right now and we have enough trouble keeping peace amongst ourselves without worrying about inter-planetary peace. I run SETI@home because I am curious and like to think I am helping.
