Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe extraterrestrial life exists in shapes/sizes and colors we can't even think of. They've probably discovered us a long time ago and are in fact monitoring our actions.
We won't see them on Larry King Live just yet, because our hostile nature would then probably oblige us to nuke them on the spot. (and their home planet.)
A beacon is nice but will not get us any "return-calls" within this lifetime. But more importantly: You don't know who you're inviting (They just might share our human-nature). But okay, if they've mastered star-/interdimensional-travel they are probably a lot more civilised then us. (because it would take a solid society to reach that point). So what the heck, let's invite them over! It would be a usefull experience for us arrogant humans to meet someone/something that actually has a brain and is able to use it.
