Personal background
Ah, where to start... In 1964 I was born and then raised in Northern Wisconsin, United States of America and through out my childhood and teen years I was facinated by Science and Astronomy. I can remember laying on my back with a friend behind the high school and staring up at the stars, wondering what might be up there. From this angle during the colder months the Northern Lights, aka Arora Borialis (sp), danced across the night sky. My best friend and I used to role play Star Trek, him being Science Officer Spock and I being Captain James T. Kirk, ocassionally changing roles. My love of the stars and what was beyond has carried on through this day. I gained a vast interest in computers in the mid 1980's when I joined the United States Army as a Telecommunications Specialist. I did my time in the military and continue a civilian career that started with the Army in the same profession. Through out my career I went from telecommunications to Main Frame computers to programming same then finally to the PC world where I am today. I am an IT Branch Manager for one District of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. I run SETI where ever and when ever I can. If I come visit you, you might find it loaded on your machine before I leave.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think ET Life exists? Yes, my answer does not only originate from my love of Science Fiction, but also from my upbringing and watching programs on A&E or the History Channel. We are not even a speck of dust in the make up of this Universe, at least that is the way I can explain it from what I have been taught over the years, but look at the odds, there has to be something else out there, or simply is it that as a human being I need something to belive in? Na, could not be, has to be something out there. Can we transmit a beacon out there? I would like to think so, so lets do it.
The hinderance I see in all of this is if we are just a speck in the cosmic makup of the universe, then we may be laughed at by other like intelligence, if they were to see what is going on on our world, heck we cant even get along with each other, why should we try to impose our ways on some other alien culture if we cannot even control our own.....
