Personal background
I was born and raised near Detroit in Michigan, USA. I love computers, the Internet, and what possibilities technology and its use have brought to our lives. More importantly, I love the promise it holds for our future. I also love our country, and the ideals and human rights standards it stands for (see my web site at http://www.geocities.com/jimerman).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
We must continue our search for ET, but we must broaden it. What if they use digital or encrypted signals? Will SETI detect it? What if they use means other than radiation to communicate? We need to search, physically, through remote probes and human missions to establish colonies. It is our destiny, and much more important that we all learn to accept each other in order to accomplish our destiny.

We must also develop technologies that will allow us to detect and clean up the growing space junk problem. Imagine what a tiny chip of paint will do if it strikes a satellite or space station when traveling at 17,000 miles per hour or faster. There are also nuts, bolts, screws, and debris. Perhaps this could be an outcome of SETI technology?
