| Hi! I'm from Slovakia but living in Prague, Czech Republic. I've done my studies and I'm working now as a programmer for a small company here. I like sci-fi, swiming & beer. So far, so good. :) |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I believe there is other life in universe for it's so big (really big) and with so many stars (and planets of course) there could be life even very similar to our own here on Earth. But I'm not sure about that we are able to find a civilization right now, most probably they have to find us. :) Dangers? Benefits? It depends... If the alien civilization is open-minded and looking for the contact like we are it will be great. Just imagine the possibilities of information exchange or travelling to other worlds! On the other side, if they find us only to conquer and build another colony our good intentions won't help us much...
I think, we should transmit a beacon. Mainly to show our good intentions and to say we are looking for the contact. Otherwise they could just fly by and leave us alone. What information should it contain? Something an alien civilization would understand, but frankly I have no idea. Perhaps some mathematics, because the rules are the same all around the universe and can be understood easily.
Although I don't thing we will find something right now, I like to help people who think it's possible. Finally they could be right! :) And I like the idea being part of something that big. Anyway may processor is bored while I'm typing my code. ;) |
