Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Participating in SETI@home is fun, educational, and cool.

Among open-minded people, mention of participation in such an Internet community project can be a very interesting conversation piece and an opportunity to inspire others to contemplate one of the biggest questions humans have formulated: whether or not we are the universe's sole inhabitants (in terms of intelligence comparable to ours).

In considering such a sizable question, and the many deeper questions to follow, we can have opportunities to learn more about ourselves, our world, our unique place in the galaxy and the cosmos, as well as to become aware and appreciative of perspectives other than our own -- theoretically or otherwise, how others external to this world, particularly those potentially much older and far more experienced (and not just in terms of technology), might perceive humans, from the history of humankind to contemporary human lifestyles.
