Profile: A. P. Ricafort

Personal background
I am a Filipino currently living in Hong Kong. I have lived here for more than 12 years. My children are all born here although none of us speaks fluent cantonese.

I am an Computer professional working in the area of Application Development. But recently I lost my job and that gave me a chance to explore other areas of computing. This also gave me a chance to hone my skills in GNU/Linux. I have, for years, had developed keen interest in GNU/Linux and the open source movement, which I follow closely.

It is during this time that I got involved in this project. I was looking for a screen saver for my Linux machine when I remember this 'SETI screensaver'. So I look it up and in the process learned a great deal about this project.

To me, this is nothing more than grid computing, which is becoming more popular on GNU/Linux systems. I decided to join because this is one way of giving back to the GNU/Linux community - to share my resources and the great power of the GNU/Linux.

Oh, by the way, I did not get any screensavers but I did get certificates.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I don't know if extraterrestrial life exists but I am interested in finding out.

We seems to have develop a notion that if life exists outside this planet then the existence of God is in question. So if we do discover one, the first thing that I would ask them is if they believe in God. And I believe that they will answer Yes.

But my gut feeling tells me that there are probably no intelligent lifeform out there.
