Personal background
I'm currently running seti@home on four processors, and a fifth intermittently (laptop). All of the SETI boxes are running the console client as a service. Oh... you mean my background? Well, it's a little white plyboard that I use for greenscreen. In all seriousness, though, (*ahem*) I'm sixteen years old, have access to more technical goodies than I should, and I read a lot.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home because I don't like wasting CPU cycles. The chances of detecting a narrowband transmission are slim to none, but somebody's got to win the lottery eventually.

If or when we do make contact with an extraterrestrial civilization, I hope they have exceptionally good wine. You see, all of this nonsense about aliens coming and solving all of mankind's problems is silly. Mankind is destined to solve his own problems or else suffer through them (most likely the latter, seeing how stupid we are). It's irresponsible to rely on the remote chance that some extraterrestrial deus ex machina will come and fix all of ours screwups for us. Ain't happenin'. And if it does, it really isn't a healthy way for us to grow up. Man needs to learn to take responsibility for his actions. Period.

The arrival of an alien intelligence, if benevolent, will give everyone a valid excuse to party like animals and get drunk in celebration. On the other hand, if an alien intelligence arrives with the intention of destroying Earth or enslaving its people or something equally villainous (why would anyone want mankind, anyway?), then people will most definitely party and get drunk. It's all relative, you see.
