Personal background
I am Colorado Springs, and just graduated with my MS in Computer Science. I mainly became interested in SETI because it works on parallel processing, something that interested me, especially since I push pair-programming at the office. Although not as powerful as parallel processing, it really has some great advantages.

Retarded (I mean retired) form the Marines in 1993 where I served as engine mechanic on the EA-6B and A-4M. In the latter part of my career (1983), I became a network administrator and realized what we could do with computers. I began studying programming and currently work as VS.NET programmer for a large company (SI Intl) where we are modeling US Air Force buildings using 3D graphics and rendering for facilities management. As the lead programmer, I have a 4 man (literally) work team. Our program was developed in VB 6.0 and is currently being ported over to VB.NET, SQL Server, and ASP.NET.

Major strengths are in C, C , some JAVA, VB, and quickly becoming either crazy or proficient in VB.NET...it is difficult to tell as some days go without a hitch and others are just plain maddening.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think the concept of SETI is fantastic. The fact that many people are involved and dedicating so many hours of computer time to search for intelligence is amazing.

Am I certain that there is other intelligent forms in the universe...hmm, not really sure. My beliefs tell me that there is, but I am skeptical about how we would actually communicate.

If I understood MORE about what we do when we complete the Work Units, it would help me understand how critical the work is.

Not understanding that I am doing much more than crunching data doesn't help me in my resolve. Having watched CONTACT with Jodie Foster helped me to understand what the antenna are doing, but doesn't really tell me what I am doing.

Look forward to some insight.
