Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1. I think it is likely that estra terrestrial life exists. The possibilities that life DOES NOT exist, to me, are too remote. Does extraterrestrial, intelligent life exist? Well, if I were a betting man, I would gamble that it does.
If we discover life on another planet, I believe it would have a unifying effect on human kind, particularly if intelligent life is discovered. Are there any dangers? Well, without knowing whether or not we ARE limited to sub-light travel, (and when I say "we", I mean the universal we, ANY intelligent life form) I cannot say if there are any real dangers. If the rest of the universe is limited by the same laws of Physics that we theorize we are bound by, than I would say the dangers could be remote or at least slow in developing.
2. We have been sending beacons for generations. If we can improve the signal and make it easier to find, than maybe we should.
3. I run SETI@home because I believe God created a universe filled with life and gave us the responsibility to find it. It is vital that we as a species continue our search for knowledge and explore the unknown. Not for curiosity sake, but because the survival of our species depends on our growth and our growth depends on our knowledge. |
