Personal background
I am a 21 year old from New England (in the USA, of course). I am currently employed in the information technology field and spend much of my free time working with computers as well.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think that there is a good change that extraterrestrial life does exist. When you consider just how many stars and planets there are in the universe, the odds of us being alone seem rather slim. This does not mean that SETI and SETI@home will find anything, unfortunately. There is always the possibility that nobody is broadcasting out there or that they are too far away.

Transmitting a beacon of some sort may or may not be effective. Who can say for sure that any other beings have equipment compatible with our signals if they have any at all? It is of course possible that we are the only beings to come up with our methods of communication.

I have been running SETI@home on and off since May of 2000 hoping that one day the project might lead to the discovery of life elsewhere. It would be nice to see a non-screensaver graphical version for Windows that runs as nicely as the Linux command line version. One can dream, right?
