Personal background
I\\'ve been interested in communications, the U.S. Space program and computers since the mid-60\\'s...consequently this led to a Ham Radio Hobby where I hold an Advanced Class License and own a Computer Networking Business which ultimately evolved into a small local ISP/Web Hosting venture..SETI@HOME allows me to tie all three interests together in a single package..
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think it is extraordinarily egotistical to assume the life exists only on our big blue marble. That is not to imply that I believe that higher forms of intelligence than man exist. I do believe that all things are possible, but only if you have an open mind and are willing to accept that yesterday\\'s magic is today\\'s science as today\\'s unknowns are tomorrows facts. I think it is possible that SETI\\'s data may one day lead to the discovery of new facts that are currently catalogued as unknowns. It may take a leap in technology or even a new way of interpreting the data that we are current involved in analysing. That is what makes it such an interesting project to be a part of. It may not lead to the discovery of life on other worlds, but I feel it will most certainly lead to the discovery of new information about our universe, which in turn may lead to additional roads to go down and therefore continue to expand human knowledge, if not for our generation, then for future generations. That is a project worth participating in, in my humble opinion.
