Personal background
I'm from England, just turned 22 back end of Nov 2003. I spend a fair amount of time online, mainly upkeedping my site where I play DnD. Heard about SETI through word of mouth online. It's visually aesthetic (I use the GUI not the CLI) and I like the fact it's there searching for E.T while I'm bored outta my mind at work away from my keyboard. :(
I enjoy rock music, anime, DnD and video games primarily.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Aliens have to exist, Earth can not be the only planet in the infinity of space that is capable of supporting life. Not only that but the diversity of life Earth has suggests to me there has to be some elsewhere, intelligent or otherwise. I reckon it's likely very very far away and unlikely to be found in our lifetime, unless we suddenly break the speed of light next week.
A beacon should be sent, but should be kept short so as to be easier understood. Something simple mentioning who we are, where we are and why we're looking.
I run SETI as I like the idea of my computer working while I'm not at it, and I think the project is worthwhile, we might not have found anything yet, but we must have eliminated some possibilities which is just as important.
