| Personal background |
I am 70 (as at 28/07/2008) years old, from Whitley Bay, Northumberland, England. Worked for 34 years in IT in a UK Government Department starting when computers had valves, 10000 of them!
Was responsible for a rewrite of the Department's payroll in 1967, which went live in 1969 and was replaced in 1994.
Was involved with the British Computer Society in Newcastle upon Tyne and as national Chair of the Branches Congress.
Spend my days writing software for UK phone users to save them money.

| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I think this is a brilliant way to take advantage of spare capacity at home.
I am sure ET life exists but whether we will find an intelligent society at such distance in space-time is debatable.
Even if we do, it would at least show we are not alone.
I would not want to meet a civilisation too far ahead of us so I would not favour scattering even more waves into space. |
