Personal background
I'm a computer technician in Houston, Texas. I've been working at a small computer store now for 2 years and enjoy it a lot. I run seti on two machines. One at work and one at home. They are almost identical minus the RAM and motherboards. My machine at work is running on a DDR platform which completes each packet in about 5 hours while my machine running PC-133 completes them in about 15... Both machines are Athlon XP 1700's. Big difference in performance eh? I first discovered seti at home in a magazine. Popular science I believe it was, and I've been trying to do my part ever since. The first machine I ever ran it on was I PIII 450 which took over 48 hours per packet... Technology has come a very long way since then and hopefully with these advancements we can come closer to finding other life in this huge universe we live in.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe there is something else out there. There just has to be. I find it hard to believe that with how incredibly huge this universe or even our solar system for that matter, that we could possibly be the only lifeforms in it. A little to hard to believe. I think that we should do all we can to contact try to contact other life and I think that seti@home is a great project. I wish I could do more to help out and I hope to get another machine soon to run seti@home on.
